Insulation System

Geothermal energy

The system uses the stable temperature of the earth to naturally regulate indoor climate. Warm or cool air flows continuously through the wall cavities, heated in winter and cooled in summer, reducing energy loss.

Technology

A unique combination of insulation panels and a buried heat exchanger allows efficient energy transfer from the ground to the building. This design is legally protected and proven in experimental structures.

Advantages

Even without any external energy input, the building reliably remains above freezing throughout winter. This ensures stored goods, animals, and equipment are fully protected with zero heating costs.

Energy efficiency

The innovative technology significantly reduces both heating and cooling energy demand for comfortable living spaces. Ground-sourced air circulation efficiently smooths temperature fluctuations.

Patented Geothermal Insulation System

A patented insulation system that harnesses the geothermal energy of the ground to reduce heat loss in comfortable buildings and prevent freezing in unheated structures, by circulating air through cavities built into the walls.

The system consists of polystyrene insulation panels and a plastic tube – the so-called ground heat exchanger. The heat exchanger is installed in the ground according to technical specifications, with the above-ground pipe ends connected to the multi-layered insulation integrated into the building. Air flows through the wall cavities, warmed in winter and cooled in summer by the ground heat exchanger.

If an unheated building requires only frost protection, the system ensures a consistently frost-free environment completely on its own, without relying on any external energy sources. This self-regulating mechanism keeps the interior above freezing throughout the winter, providing reliable protection for stored goods, equipment, and structures while eliminating additional energy costs.

Frost-Free Protection Without External Energy

If an unheated building requires only frost protection, the system ensures a consistently frost-free environment completely on its own, without relying on any external energy sources.

Reliable Winter Safety and Energy Savings

This self-regulating mechanism keeps the interior above freezing throughout the winter, providing reliable protection for stored goods, equipment, and structures while eliminating additional energy costs.

Project Overview

The objective of the project is the research, development, and experimental testing of an insulation system that operates on geothermal principles. The system is designed to keep a building permanently frost-free without any external energy input, provided it is properly sized.

In practice, this means that after the insulation system is installed, the building’s heating energy demand is completely eliminated while the indoor temperature remains above 0°C. As a result, the energy previously required to maintain frost-free conditions can be fully saved, providing a direct financial benefit to the operator.

The system may also be suitable for reducing winter heat loss in comfortable residential buildings and for mitigating summer heat load. In such cases, achieving the same comfort level requires significantly less energy for both heating and cooling.

The widespread implementation of this technology could significantly contribute to reducing building energy consumption on a global scale.

To verify the operation of the technology, we created two simple experimental structuresImplemented examples

Frost-Free Test House

We built a structure with a 1×1 meter footprint and a height of 1.5 meters, equipped with the geothermal insulation system. During winter testing, with an outdoor temperature of –15 °C, the internal temperature never dropped below 0 °C—all without any heating or external energy input.

This technology is particularly suitable for buildings where the primary goal is to maintain frost-free conditions. The system uniquely achieves this using only geothermal energy, eliminating the need for a dedicated heating system. As a result, significant installation costs are avoided, and operation requires no ongoing energy expense.

Application Areas

  • Livestock buildings
  • Storage halls
  • Mobile garages
  • Vegetable and fruit storage facilities
  • Highway rest-area sanitary blocks
  • Thermal protection for utilities and mechanical systems

Flink Geothermal Dog House

This prototype represents a standalone, commercially developed product that also uses geothermal insulation technology. Due to its larger door opening, it cannot maintain complete frost-free conditions; however, this level of protection is generally not necessary for a dog’s well-being. The structure still provides significant thermal stability compared to conventional dog houses.

The Flink dog house clearly demonstrates the system’s impressive thermal buffering capabilities. During the winter months, the dog not only warms the interior with its own body heat but also benefits from continuous natural geothermal support, creating a noticeably more comfortable environment.

Additionally, the built-in fan allows the system to draw air through the ground heat exchanger for cooling, providing effective temperature reduction during hot summer periods and ensuring year-round comfort.
